The Prechtl's General Movements Assessment (GMA), presented by Professor Alicia Spittle — paediatric physiotherapist, Associate Dean Research, University of Melbourne. The programme is made up of a Basic Course and an Advanced Course (Type B); each may be taken on its own, and participants may enrol in both.

Basic Course · 12–14 October 2026 · 8:30 am – 6:00 pm (3 full days, 21 hours)

Participants will be able to:

  • Assess typically developing infants using the General Movement Assessment
  • Assess infants with brain lesions using the General Movement Assessment
  • Incorporate the General Movement Assessment into their clinical and research practice
  • Distinguish between typical and atypical general movements in developing infants

Advanced Course (Type B) · 15–17 October 2026 · 8:30 am – 6:30 pm (3 full days)

Participants will be able to:

  • Assess the components of general movements (speed, amplitude, intensity, rotations) at preterm and term age
  • Evaluate the individual trajectory of developing infants
  • Assess fidgety movements and the concurrent motor repertoire in 3–5 month old infants
  • Discuss their own diagnoses of developing infants, illustrated with their own recordings

Prerequisite: the Advanced Course requires prior completion of, and a pass in, the Basic Course.
